The Centre of Excellence Hair and Make-up competition
Thursday 27th July 2017
This year’s All-Campus Competition was a jaw dropper!Our students went above and beyond and surprised their trainer, and I think, even themselves.
From Medusa, with hand crafted snake heads and bodies constructed from fly wire, to a gorgeous coupling by one of the beauty students twins as models and being morphed into Forest Imps-our COE 2017 entries took our breath away with their collective effort.
And here our 6 category winners but honestly the competition was fierce and the staff and trainers are so proud of every student’s contribution.
Congratulations to all our winners!
Our 2016 in-campus competition was a huge success. With one of our most magical and popular subjects to explore, the students of our Corio, Colac and Geelong city campus were jumping with excitement at our ‘DISNEY’ inspired theme.
And the competition entries didn’t disappoint! With everything from our gorgeous classic Disney Princess to Minnie Mouse and Jack Sparrow, the student entries were exceptional!
Colac students stepped up to the competition plate and their preparation showed in taking out three of the six awards.
Our over-all 1st place winner was from Colac with the teams model showcasing ‘Ursula’ from The Little Mermaid.
A thankyou to Leigh Bartlett from Batforce, Cindy from KROCK and Craig Hilsop from DeLorenzo

In July of 2015 The Centre of Excellence conducted an in-school competition. The theme was ‘a Touch of Renaissance’ and the students could interpret this in whatever form they wanted.
So, with much preparation and a whole lot of energy- the day involved both Beauty and Hairdressing students to merge into small groups and showcase their project on a model.
And what a wonderful day it was. Our winners were decided by our DeLorenzo judge and what tough choices she had to pick from.
In First Place with a traditional Renaissance feel to their overall finished model was Team 12. Well done girls!
The Centre of Excellence held their first hair and make- up competition on the 31st of October 2013.
Initially students where asked to express their interest in competing in the competition. The students where then paired up in teams of two, by the competition host, to make a dynamic duo.
The students were required to work together over a 3 week period to come up with a theme and hair and makeup design.
The four teams of 2 worked over the 3 weeks to design and practice their style/theme of their choice to their model.
When the 31st of October came around, nerves high and the excitement was growing, the teams where given 3 hours to make there models up and present them to the judges.
The judges for the 2013 competition where;
- Kim Van Beveren -A Director of The Centre of Excellence and
- Jonathan Watson -A Harvey -A Agent for DE Lorenzo,
Both Johnathan and Kim where given a set of criteria to judge all teams by. The final score was given out of 80.
There were 5 sets of criteria each team had to complete;

- Step by step planning of hair style and makeup
- Pli sheet drawn up for hair and make-up
- Comprehensive List of the tools, equipment & other materials required
- Before Photo of model
Out of the four teams, there were 2 outstanding.
First place was a draw;

Team 2 -A Deana Lawn (Hair) and Sophie Chandler (Make-up)
The Lucky winners received a Hair Care hamper from De Lorenzo each and a certificate of Achievement award which was presented by Dr John Van Beveren -A CEO The Centre of Excellence.
